We lost our Zack today.
His kidneys never recovered from his colic bout earlier this week, and despite all of our best efforts he just couldn’t pull through. It breaks our hearts to share this, knowing how much everyone loved his plucky personality. He was an absolute treasure and will be sorely missed by all of our volunteers, and especially by his friend Fernando. He is now pain free, and has probably already found the biggest pasture with his old friends, Pilgrim, Chip, Red, Bobbie and Jet.
We want to say thank you to our volunteers who took care of him when he originally colicked, our vets at North Country Veterinary for coming out to treat him, and to the wonderful staff and vets at Cornell who did their best to save him. They too fell in love with him and we are so grateful.
The hardest part about this post is now asking for help with his vet bill. Zack’s stay at Cornell was up to $800 a day, and he had been there since Monday night. As you can expect the cost was over $3000 and we need your help to cover it. With over 30 other horses to care for this unexpected emergency visit is going to really cut in to our monthly budget. Please make a donation today in memory of our little Zack and to help us continue to help his friends. Thank you from the bottom of all our hearts.
