Jacob Bano choose Sunshine Horses as his Eagle Scout community service project. He showed up with a crew of 15+ people Saturday morning to complete the project. The goal of the project was to even out the mats and bedding in our dirtiest stalls. Some of our horses excel at pushing sawdust and hay under their mats, creating a lopsided mess.
Under Jacob’s direction, the crew raked the indoor arena to generate enough sand to level out the stalls. They then removed everything from the 9 stalls that would be fixed. They used rakes, shovels and a gas-powered tamper to create a flat sand bed in each stall. Then they placed the rubber mats on top of the newly flat surfaces. The floors are completely flat with rubber mats butted up against each other. This will make cleaning the stalls much easier for volunteers for the next several months.
After the project, the crew and Sunshine volunteers enjoyed a pizza lunch (provided by Jacob and his crew). Many of the boys then went home to get ready for prom later that night. Thanks to these generous young men for donating their time and muscle to such a difficult project. Horses Whisky Walt, Dawn, Lucky, Shooter, Pocket, Duke, Max, Serengetti and Huck appreciate all the efforts. Lucky will do his best to keep his stall looking like this for at least a month!
Thanks to Sunshine volunteers Jan, Pam, Beth and Regina for your support on this project.
