Annual Lucy check in.
She is still doing very well. She turns 13 at the end of this month!! She’ll be vaccinated end of April, we’ll test fecal and deworm accordingly. I’ve not done coggins on her in a long time. She never goes anywhere since she became a pasture flower. We are still with Finger Lakes Equine and see Dr. Nash.
We struggled all last year with hoof abscesses. One after another always popping out in her heels. As naturally grows toe and heels like to grow forward and curl in, it has been a challenge. I knew her hoof was unbalanced and I didn’t have any luck with my farrier getting her toes back and improving her breakover so I needed to find someone who could deal with her feet. I did a lot of research on barefoot trimming and then searched for one who would work in our area because there are no local barefoot trimmers (that I knew of). I finally found Jeff Eddy from Canandaigua http://www.barefoothoof.net/. He was a godsend and Lucy is so much more comfortable!! Not one abscess since we started reshaping her feet and her breakover is better which helps with her bone spur in the back.
Otherwise, she remains in good weight on just hay with a ration balancer and no grain, even through winter she maintained good condition. She’ll have her teeth done this fall.
After 10 years together, Lucy is still my best girl and is not going anywhere.
